BR2-14: The Twelve Dancing Princesses

Princesses are supposed to be quiet and well behaved, but the twelve princesses in this story like to have fun. When their father finds out they've been sneaking off at night to go dancing, he's furious. "Dancing is banned!" he declares. But will that stop them?
This story is about the twelve princesses' dancing. Their father, the king, was a grumpy old man who didn't believe in having fun. He believed that princesses should be seen and not heard. The princesses strongly disagreed. Their father hated dancing, but the princesses loved it, so whenever he wasn't looking, they danced anyway. The girls slept in a tall tower with their beds side by side. Every night, the king locked the tower door, so that they couldn't sneak out. One day, the maid went to the princesses' room, and she noticed their shoes were lying in a soggy pile on the floor. The shoes were worn out. When the king heard about the shoes, he was furious. Then he had a brilliant idea. He decided that the first man to discover where his daughters went each night could marry of them. Posters went up across the land. Who can find the princesses' secret?

My favorite club

My favorite club is chorus club because I belonged to the chorus club in high school. I like singing songs, so I wanted to enter the club. My high school is known for a good chorus club and the prizes. When I was in the club, we got the gold prize in the chorus contest in Iwate, I was very glad then. We went to many concert halls in various places, and we sometimes enjoyed sightseeing there. The places we've visited are Fukuoka, Iwate, and Kagawa. We were supposed to go to Okinawa and Ishikawa for the contests in 2009, but we couldn't join them because of the new type influenza. I didn't have a influenza, but a lot of my friends had it. So our teacher decided to default from the contests. I was disappointed to hear that. However, I have wonderful memories of the club activity, and I will join the concert of the chorus club in every March.

My favorite place I've been

My favorite place I've been is Melbourne, Australia. I have been there when I was a high school student. I took part in the homestay program of my high school. I passed the test to go to Melbourne, and I wrote a letter to my host family in Australia. I stayed there for a week, so I wanted to stay more weeks. My host family was very kind, and they took me to many beautiful places in Melbourne. By the way, I was surprised that people can drive a car under the little influence of alcohol. My host father did it when we went to their friend's house to have dinner. I went to school every day in Melbourne, so I didn't stay with my host family so much. But I enjoyed watching TV, visiting their friend's house, and so on. We just watched the Summer Olympics in Beijing. We were so exciting. I want to visit them someday.

BR2-12: The Stinking Story of RUBBISH

It smells horrible and looks disgusting, but rubbish hasn't always been a problem. Some of it can even be useful. Squelch through its intriguing story, past ancient animal droppings, stinking sewers and dirty nappies. Just remember to hold your nose along the way.
This story is about rubbish on earth. Long long ago, there was no rubbish on Earth. There were no living things either. Gradually, plants and animals developed and created their own natural waste. Then came humans. To begin with, their waste was harmless too. The first humans were always on the move, hunting animals and gathering berries. All they left behind them were ash, poo, bones and rotten fruit. Over time, humans thought up new objects for everyday life. Every item was treasured and looked after. Only once it was beyond repair would someone finally throw it away. Around a thousand years ago, small towns were appearing all over Europe. Lots of people in one place meant lots of rubbish too. Soon, food and toilet waste piled up in the streets, smelling awful and attracting rats and diseases. What did people do to improve the conditions?

BR2-11: The Emperor and the Nightingale

The Emperor of China loves to hear the little brown nightingale sing. Then, one day, a dazzling new songbird arrives. It is made of gold and jewels, and the Emperor has eyes for nothing else. What will happen to the little brown nightingale?
This story is about the Emperor of China and the little brown nightingale. The Emperor of China was a very proud man. He always wanted the best of everything. His palace was made of fine white bricks. The roof was solid gold. The garden was full of bright flowers with silver bells. They tinkled in the wind. But the Emperor never saw the little brown nightingale who lived in the trees because of the size of the garden. The gardener saw her every day. He liked to listen to her singing. One day, the Emperor was reading a book about his wonderful palace. And he found the phrase: "the nightingale's song sounds sweeter than the bells!" So he ordered to bring it to sing in the palace. After the nightingale arrived at the palace, the Emperor was surprised to see such a little brown bird. But when she sang, he was enchanted by her voice. The Emperor liked her voice so much, he ordered her to stay and sing to him every day. One day, a big box arrived at the palace. Inside, there was another nightingale. This one had sparkling golden feathers. Its eyes were made of rubies. After that, the Emperor played the golden nightingale every morning, and every evening. Until one day, instead of singing, it went whizz-whirr and ker-plunk. So the Emperor longed for the little brown bird. But no one could find her, not even the gardener. Then the Emperor became sick. Will the nightingale come back to him?

My favorite drink

My favorite drink is coffee because of the taste. My boyfriend doesn't like coffee, so he often asks me "Why do you like coffee?" I went to the cafe with my boyfriend last Saturday, and I ordered a cup of coffee and pancakes. The coffee I drank was espresso, so it was so bitter. I could drink off the coffee, but my tongue was very bitter. I like coffee except espresso. By the way, I also like water because the shrine near my house has very clear spring water. I sometimes draw the water with my father on a holiday. It makes me refreshing, and it doesn't smell of chlorinated lime. I haven't  drunk tap water since I would begin to drink the water. My family also like the water, so we always have the water in our house. But in winter, we don't drink it much.

July 24

I went to Minnesota this summer vacation. First day, I was carried by my boyfriend's car to the Kumamoto airport. He was very kind and cheered me up because I was nervous. I didn't have the confidence in my homestay. For example, I can't speak English well, I expected that I miss my boyfriend for a month, and so on. After I leaved Kumamoto to Haneda airport, we took the bus to Narita airport. The flight from Tokyo to Minneapolis was for about 10 hours, so I was very tired. When I arrived at Minneapolis, I had jet lag. But I could wake up because of my host mother. She took me to her son's house and I went to the ice cream shop near his house with them. I ate grapefruit sorbet, it made me refreshed. After that, I went to the welcome party with my host mother. I was very fun and I wore yukata for our presentation. My host mother praised my presentation and yukata. I was very happy. This day was very busy day.
